Try finding someone giving his Apple ][+ away. Along with the system,
chances are that you will get plenty of 5.25", DOS 3.3 disks containing
pirated games and ][+ utilities (well, it's a start).
Cheers,

I have recently gotten an Apple IIGS system from various parts together.
I now have a ROM 01 system unit, a monitor, a 5.25" floppy drive, 2 3.5"
floppy drives, a keyboard, a mouse, and a new battery. I just have one
major problem... I have no software. I need to know how to get it from
the internet onto a disk it can use. Can I use a cable to transfer
stuff without needing any software. I have no 800k floppy disks. I
have several other computers: a Micron Millennia Max XP2 with an AMD
Athlon XP 1800+ processor, an IBM 66-MHz 486 system, and a Kaypro II
with DSDD 5.25" drives. Can I do anything with any of those? I can
probably get my uncle to put stuff on disks since he has a macintosh
Performa 5300CD and access to many older models that his school has in
storage, though. I just need to know what to instruct him to do after
downloading the files. Also, is there some way I can get a copy of
system 5, or 4 (since my system only has a 1 MB memory card, and someone
earlier mentioned that system 6 needs at least 1.5 MB including the 256K
on the motherboard)?
Two things that don't really seem to affect me, but kind of disturb
me... First, the clock doesn't seem to advance any after setting it in
the control panel. It did advance some, but only after unplugging it
and opening the case so that the battery (I took the lazy way of
installing the new battery, I just twisted the wires around the ones of
the old battery. It works for now.) might have lost contact a few brief
times while I was cleaning it. It kept all of my other settings intact.
Any suggestions on why this is happening, is this anything close to
normal? Second, after discovering the key-sequence for the self-test
(CTRL-Option-Apple-Reset, let go of reset after a second or two) it went
through some graphics tests, then it displayed different border colors
with different numbers at the bottom of the screen. 06000000 with a
dark-grey border, to start with. It gets to 0B000000 with a white
border, then after a couple of seconds, it gives a high-pitched beep,
displays 0B050000 and shows "System Bad" on the screen. What does this
mean? Should I be concerned?
Anyway, there's only so much fun one can have typing things in Apple
BASIC, especially with no known way of saving it to disk. I might be
able to get some Apple IIe floppy disks tomorrow, including whatever
version of ProDOS they used, but there isn't much hope there.
