I'll bet this Braille output device is it:

"Insert the bdp Act One interface board into
any available expansion slot in compatible apple, ibm at and xt or
hardware compatible look alike computers. The bdp Act One
automatically converts ascii code to braille. The bdp instantly
provides access to main frame information when the pc is emulating
a terminal. 20 cell refreshable braille display. The bdp act
outputs the computers video display on a 20 cell refreshable
braille window in a 6 dot braille. The user reads the information
as it is displayed by the computer retaining the exact video
screen format."

The "20 cell" part jibes with the 50 pin ribbon cable.
