The whole notion of premeditated fraud still doesn't make sense to me. It's a lot of bother for a couple thousand bucks at the very most. I mean, if you're going to run a scam - go big or go home. Seems more plausible that things got away from him and he doesn't know how to recover, and so avoidance ensues.
But yeah, everything would be solved if everyone had followed your advice. It would have put a rather tight and inescapable squeeze on Conrad as well.
