The disk drive in that model is a SuperDrive, so that is all you need
hardware-wise. I use a desktop Power Mac G3, and from time to time I have
trouble with disks written on this Mac being read on the IIgs. The IIgs
wants to format the disks.
The work-around that I employ is to format the disks for ProDOS on the IIgs,
then write whatever files on them with the Mac.
Or, even better, you could use AppleShare networking on your IIgs and
PowerBook G3. Or thirdly, use HFS formatted disks. I have not had any
problems with these latter two methods.
