Re: VGA cards on 2gs ?

Yes, there was a card known as "SecondSight", which worked quite well. It
was a VGA adapter for the IIgs that would allow you to plug in a standard
SVGA monitor and run software without modification.

It had a couple of glaring problems. First it simply "read and
reconstructed" the video to get standard IIgs video out to work on an SVGA
monitor. Because of this, there was a lot of "redrawing" activity, and games
wouldn't work too well.

Second, GS/OS was largely hardcoded to use either 640x200 or 320x200 video.
To get it to work in SVGA resolutions (640x400, 800x600) would require a
complete rewrite of quickdraw, as well as the font-rendering routines.

Basically, to sum it up, GS/OS was largely incapable of running resolutions
higher than 640x200 because it was never designed to!
