An interesting discussion.
I don't see the apple 3.5' drive as a true smartport device, its just
a dumb floppy drive disk. To me I can only ever see 2 of these being
able to be supported externally due to interface constraints. It
interesting what Steven has noticed that it sort of works with two
external drives connected to the iic+. The iic+ is a unique case with
its internal 3.5' drive. I would think that one of the external drives
would be sort running doubled up with the internal drive. It would be
interesting to know which of the two does this, i think it would be
the second external drive connected?
For the intelligent smartport drives like the unidisk 3.5 and Cedric's
spvhd, I can this being limited by prodos's abilty to map these
smartport id's to slots and disks, and not the interface.
hmmm, i've had a read of the apple support doc on the supported drive
configurations for the iic+.
Its very clear from this that it only supports 3 external drives of
various configurations. Maybe it is some sort of firmware imposed
limitation for this. seems strange.
Is there a iic+ firmware listing available?
