: An Apple II, II+ and unenhanced IIe will all show "Apple ][" at the

Jeff, if you're gonna nit-pick, do it right!

The ][ doesn't show a logo on startup...you'll get a screenfull of
question-marks and random characters and a Monitor prompt. I used to work
with one of those things at school!

The ][+ displays, "APPLE ][" top-center on the screen and attempts to boot
a disk if a controller is present, or dumps you into Applesoft BASIC if it
isn't. Note that the logo is all-uppercase, and impossible to type on the
Apple ][+ keyboard (Shift-M will give you the "]" but there is no
keystroke for the "[").

(Okay, I guess the "Black Apples" had some shift-key combo that would give
you the "[". Standard Apple ]['s though, didn't.)

[Dave suddenly realizes he has just committed a terrible sin and
referred to an Apple ][ in the past tense. Please substitute
"have" for "had" and "don't" for "didn't" in the previous
   parenthetical statement. Thank you.]

The original ][e displays "Apple ][" top-center on the screen and attempts
to boot a disk if a controller is present, or dumps you into Applesoft
BASIC if it isn't.

The enhanced ][e displays "Apple //e" top-center on the screen and...do I
really have to keep repeating the Autostart ROM cycle? 8-)

The ][c displays "Apple //c" top-center on the screen...(etc).

The IIgs displays "Apple IIgs" top center on the screen. The ROM 01 and
ROM 03 versions also display a copyright notice in the center of the
screen along with a notice of the ROM version.
