The "Localtalk PC Card" with the "Appleshare PC Software" would allow a PC
to appear to the IIGS as an Appleshare server. As we all are aware, though,
the "Localtalk PC Card" is now very difficult to find (even on ebay).
With PCMacLAN installed on a PC with a standard ethernet interface card, the
only other device necessary to set up a Localtalk network with a IIGS (or
any Mac without built-in ethernet, for that matter) is an
ethernet-to-Localtalk adapter (like the Asante "AsanteTalk" or the Farallon
"iPrint Adapter LT"). From the point of view of the IIGS, the PC would
appear as an Appleshare server.
As was pointed out in a preceding message, the same thing can be
accomplished on a PC (for those having the necessary expertise) using Linux
and "netatalk".
