Probably because the serial port chip in the IIgs is called the SCC. I
forget off hand what it stands for, but it's the dual-port chip that kinda
sorta emulates the Super Serial Card (SSC) Asynchronous Communications
Interface Adapter (ACIA).
Anyway, in the IIgs, AppleTalk operates through the SCC. Maybe that has
something to do with it. Perhaps the SCC.MANAGER handles allowing one
port to be a serial port and the other to be an AppleTalk port or
something strange like that...
(Just guessing, obviously!)
