I use hyperterminal to telnet to my home isp and log on.  Then I type pine at
the menu prompt.  They allow me to do that after I am already online.  Funny,
so I had to put in my online name and password twice.  But it works, Im using
pine and not downloading my email to my computer.  I can telnet in as long as
Im online already.  

Im not sure why you cannot use this method.  I expect almost all isp's have
pine on their system.
