There is a pretty good number of boxes that can use a IIe card. I have one
in a Color Classic with an LC520 logic board swapped in. You'll find that
the more horsepower the host box has, the better IIe performance you'll get.
Of the pizza box LC series, the III is the best since as has been mentioned,
it has a 25 MHz '030 with 32 bit bus while earlier LCs have 16 MHz clocks
and a crippled 16 bit bus. Plus a III has a 72 pin SIMM slot so it can take
much more memory.

The same deal applies with a Color Classic, it has a 16 MHz clock and crippled
bus and 10 mb memory limit. Swapping in the LC520 board gave it 25 MHz, a
32 bit bus, and a 36 mb limit. And IIe performance is a lot better with it
than with the CC board.

Early Pmacs run $50 these days so you should be able to get any IIe card
compatible box mighty cheap. An '040 would be best, such as a Q605 or LC
or Performa equivalent. Or a Performa 575 series, with a built in CD and
14" screen. Those boxes also sport 33 MHz '040s. Stay away from the Quadra/
Performa/LC 630 series since while the slot is compatible, you can't turn
32 bit addressing off on 'em. The IIe software won't run with it on. That
also means 7.5.5 is the latest system that can run on a box using the card.

But of the first LCs, the III is the one to get for sure.
