sending shk files on a Mac on AOL?

How I miss being able to log on and send email and files on my Apple II!!!!
I tried sending an email with some shrinkit files to another Apple II member,
but AOL coverts them to .sit files. Result? I believe they're corrupted and
so does AOL from the carbon copy file that I mailed myself. Is there a way to
keep AOL on my *&^%$#@i(maginary)Mac from further compressing the files?
