This sounds like you are saying that users who want to use the TFFE
archive (formerly A2-Caltech) should expect to give up a standard option for
access.

No argument about that. In general, the best way to connect to an ftp
site is via an ftp program (or "client") like WS_FTP95 or Cute FTP. This
avoids some potential problems and allows easy multi-file transfers.
On the other hand, it is convenient to be able to surf over to a site
mentioned in some message or web page and do one or two downloads under your
browser. Usually, a user is already on the net via Netscape or 'Explorer; and,
browsers really are better than ftp programs for browsing a site's contents.
Regarding the specific case of TFF Enterprises ftp access, the fix for
links used in the FAQs was easy. I just added the "/" missing at the end of
the URL as posted.
If Dan wants users to be able to reliably link to the
"ftp://apple2.tffenterprises.com/pub/apple2" URL from his web page, he can add
the trailing "/" to the ftp link.
