I also have a Matsushita (sp??) drive that I got from Alltech, and it
works just fine with the IIGS.

If you're not all that familiar with GS/OS, just use the Installer that
comes with 6.0.1, choose to install CD-ROM and that'll copy the proper
drivers.

It's really important that the patched HFS.FST be used.
 
That patch addresses a problem that only crops up on large sized
partitions, 96 megs or greater, I believe.
 
At some point a year or two ago, I inserted an HFS formatted CD into my
IIGS, and instead of mounting, I got an error message asking me if I
wanted to format the disk. For some reason, I didn't have the patched
HFS.FST on that particular system, but as soon as I copied it over and
rebooted, the CD mounted almost instantly.
