I don't recall ever seeing a machine that was upgraded under the offer that
Apple was running (about $500 back in '86-'87), but in late '92 I upgraded
my IIe in a similar manner with a kit that Shreve Systems was selling (price
was down to $250). The lid still says "Apple IIe" on it, but it has a ROM
01 motherboard inside. (I also have a cooling fan and the guts of a 250W
x86-type power supply mounted inside, and would like to move the hard drive
inside someday (there's just barely enough room for a 3.5" hard drive
inside).)
