Re: AppleWorks GS and reclassification
I've read every comment made by both Jeff's on this subject. Both Jeff's
being; Rubywand and Dean Jeff Blakeney, respectively!
You both have many valid points you've both expressed. Some I agree
with and some I don't.
You both have completely conflicting attitudes on 99% of everything.
So, WHY continue to TRY to change your attitudes with each other?
It's a complete waste of each of your time.
Here are the facts on the availability of AppleWorks GS v1.1.
First of all - I NEVER stated that AppleWorks GS v1.1 had
been reclassified in any form or fashion!
AppleWorks GS can be bought from either Bev of Texas II or Tony
of Altech Electronics or from Ebay by bid on an auction or
on the Apple II marketplace newsgroup when offered for
trade or sale. Where, from whom or how the AppleWorks GS
offered for sale, resale or trade (new or used) was obtained
really isn't an issue either, as they are offered for sale or
trade legally.
Bev states she was given them by others to resell.
Tony told me he got all of his (several crates of them in fact)
by retreiving them from the trash and dumpsters.
(Back in 1991 thru 1993) I retreived 1000's of new and original
Apple II software titles from many software companies around
in the Silicon Valley area of California, that were discarded in
their trash and dumpsters. Some of it I sold, some of it I kept
and some of it I simply gave away. this is all perfectly legal too.
As to AppleWorks GS v1.1 being available for public access and
download, that's all perfectly legal too. AppleWorks GS v1.1 is
not supported by Apple Computer (nor is the AppleWorks for the
Apple II) other than their files being able to be loaded and translated
and converted and saved via the Mac releases of ClarisWorks and
it's newest versions renamed as AppleWorks.
Both AppleWorks GS and AppleWorks for the Apple II computer
are copyrighted and are the property of Apple Computer. Neither
are commercially offered for sale from Apple Computer nor supported.
Apple Computer has been informed and contacted by me and many
others about both AppleWorks GS and AppleWorks for the Apple II computer being
available for public access and downloads from
online ftp and web sites. They have always responded that they
have no objections to this.
AppleWorks GS and AppleWorks for the Apple II computer are
both copyrighted commercial programs, available legally as
I've outlined above with both the knowledge of Apple Computer
and with no objections from Apple Computer.
Neither AppleWorks GS and AppleWorks for the Apple II computer
are freeware or public domain. It's unlikely that either ever will
be.
Here's another example of an Apple IIgs program that is in the same status as
AppleWorks GS and AppleWorks for the Apple II computer.
It is available from a few web sites and ftp sites, with the copyright holders
knowledge, consent and with no objections. That program is
DiversiTune. It is still a commercial program, (but - no longer supported
or sold) by its author and copyright holder. You can buy it new or used
from others legally if you wish - when and where it's offered or your
can download it as a ShrinkIt archive from the web sites and ftp sites that
have the legal right to offer it. I have it on my web site, it's on Ground and
we both have it there for public access and download and
to make it available as such, legally, with the author and copyright
holders knowledge, consent and with no objections from the programs
owner. IF he ever decides he does not wish for it to remain as such,
he can contact the site host and it will be removed promptly.
The same goes for AppleWorks GS and AppleWorks for the Apple II computer.
If anybody can prove otherwise - then prove otherwise. And, when I say prove
otherwise that's exactly what I mean. To prove otherwise - you would need a
public statement from Apple Computer, officially stating that they do not want
their copyrighted titles of AppleWorks GS and AppleWorks for the Apple II
computer made available for public access and download from any web site or ftp
site. When and if such is presented, they will be promptly removed.
Cheers,
Tom
