The Apple III had little to no effect on the life of the Apple II.
After all, the III and III+ together only lasted a few years but the
II went on for about 10 years after the III disappearred.  It was
Apple's constant pushing of the Mac, despite poor sales and the Apple
II still selling better, that killed the Apple II.

I would say the Mac is the Apple II killer but you seem to be quite
happy to have a Mac so why would you be so adverse to having an Apple
III?
