Re: Should the Fed Gov break up Microsoft?
Well, following your theme...
In the beginning, the christians could easily use these
indulgences since they were created for the simplest of
sinners. Then the church in it's infinite wisdom made all
the sinners in the general population follow a basic set
of precepts which often overlooked a variety of faults in
the whole concept but the sinners still felt themselves
forgiven.
Then the 'Open Source Monastery' decided it was time to
free the sinners from their ignorance so they would only
have to be indulged for the particular sins they committed.
There were many problems to be faced, the sinners had to
know this system existed. They had to be able to access
the indulgences in all it's varieties and they had to be
able to adapt the indulgences for the particular set of
circumstances which they faced.
In the development of this new 'Order Of Indulgences' the
monks at the monastery discovered a vast amount of errors
which the original indulgences simply ignored. This caused
the project to become even more complex and required a lot
of smaller precepts which could be incorporated into the
over-all indulgence as required by the sinner.
Well, for many this worked very well, but there remained a
great amount of sinners who felt it best to stick with the
original indulgences with which they were familiar. In their
opinion, it was not worth the effort to quantify their sins
and since the church was never wrong, why should they start
questioning it's authority now?
