Yes, but we, the Apple die-hards, aren't the most logical of people.
Logical in your definition, that is. We like a bit of a challenge; we
like, for instance, to be able to show a MPEG movie on the GS, even
though we know that a Mac would be better suited for such a task...

No, that is no challenge! That is like saying: we cannot do it; we
should wait for the next generation of Apple II computers.
But we should try to work with what we have. In my view, SIS could be
upgraded with a routine to display GIF graphics, and tbhe result
would be a decent graphical browser. Maybe not in the same resolution
as other computers; not with 16777216 colors per pixel (most of the
Internet limits itself to 216 colors anyway), but good enough for
most purposes.
As for speed, every time I see my Mac downloading at 500 bytes per
second, I wonder if I really need a 250 MHz when the bottleneck is so
clearly not in the computer (and not in the modem either, in case
you're wondering).
