A IIgs will boot system 5.0.4 or system 6.0.1 from a UniDisk without
the UniDisk driver. It won't recognize a second UniDisk drive without
the driver but the boot one it will. If you boot from another device
you need the driver to see a UniDisk drive but booting from a
UniDisk is a slightly different situation. Sort of analogous to bootin
GSOS off a hard drive with no SCSI driver However it is extremely
slow.

First thing I tried was to simply plug it into the smartport on a
IIgs with no cards in the IIgs and try to boot from a floppy
however the drives didn't even spin, replaced with platinum
3.5 and it worked fine. That should be an indication of a problem
in itself. Tried it with a hard drive that didn't have a UniDisk driver
and platinum 3.5 would work but no lobotomized UniDisk would.
I'll email Trevor and see what he has to say.
