At this point, I think that's speculation, rather than a proven fact.
It may be that ESC/Raster printers won't work on the IIGS, but until someone
actually tests that out, it's a big unknown.
My reason for saying that is based on info gleaned from Epson a few years
back. Whether it's still true or not is unknown, and today being New Year's
Eve, I just don't feel like checking it out right now. I will though...
When researching the technical specs of the Stylus line, I discovered that
Epson made a point of making every single one of their printers
backwards-compatible. In other words, in theory at least, you could use a
real old Epson FX or MX driver to drive a Stylus. Of course, the results
would look like like they were printed on an FX or MX dot-matrix printer,
but they would work.
Although as the publisher of Harmonie, I think the choice of anything but a
Hewlett-Packard brand printer is a poor choice for use on an Apple II or
IIGS, I'm curious...
If Jeff Blakeney is willing to give it a try, I'm willing to send him a
Harmonie package for free...
Drop me your address in e-mail Jeff, and early in 2000, I'll mail it to you.
As Tom Robbins wrote in Even Cowgirls Get The Blues, "it is pointless to
speculate." I agree; let's find out for sure.
In the meanwhile, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
