The color killer circuitry should kick in when you are in TEXT mode.
In graphics/text mixed modes, you will have the green/violet fringes.
If the color does not stop in text mode, it is because the mother board
is very early revision. It can be patched - you should be able to
figure out where with the schematic (I don't have mine here with me).
