The first //c was designed to boot another floppy if the internal failed.
In this case slot 7. Later revisions with the 3.5 smart port code changed
things. Apple added code for Appletalk in slot 7. Nothing was ever
done with this code but the //c thinks it has access to an Appletalk
connection. This code also allows the //c to access 3.5 unidisks in
slot 5.
I've seen some weird things with ApplePC in 2c mode. Most programs
written by Apple try to access the softswitches specific to the //c such
as the 80/40 switch.
