Since you have the Super Serial card, you are in luck. What you need to have
in addition to this software is the comp.sys.apple2 FAQs (this will suggest
settings for your Super Serial card), any serial cable which will connect the
proper ports on your Apple IIe and PC, and a program called ADT. ADT is
available from the Asimov ftp site (it is located in the utility directory
which is not under the images directory). If you are looking for a working
copy of MacADT, ask me and I will e-mail it. The FAQs are often posted in
this newsgroup, and are located somewhere on the web. As for the serial
cable: if at first the transfers do not work, just flip the modem/terminal
block on the Super Serial card. I *believe* that this works like a built-in
NULL modem adapter.
First and foremost, follow the instructions which are packaged with ADT.
The installation procedure is a bit convoluted, and requires that you pay
close attention to what is going on. This is because the first step uses
your PC as an automated terminal for your IIe. As such there is no error
correction, and even one error in the transmission will gum up the works.
Use 300bps in this first step, as it will save you time. Once ADT is
actually running on your Apple II, you can run at 19200bps without much
trouble.
Yes, there are several types of disk images. ADT seems to handle DSK and
DO disks, but I hear that it chokes on most other image formats. Needless
to say, I am not very knowledgable in this area.
Once ADT is up and running, and you have played your favorite games from
the past, I suggest grabbing the disk image for Kermit. With Kermit and
ShrinkIt, you can begin exploring realms outside of pre-packaged disk
images for emulators. There is just so much stuff out there for the
ol' Apple II.
