My thought was that Vista sees a valid partition map and decides to go
into DiskCop mode. Formatting it in a digital camera might wipe out
the partition map, so the next time you present the card to Vista it
just sees a block device with a basic structure and stays relaxed.

The only reason for using a camera is that it's easy to slip the card
in and select "format". Other options might involve rebooting or
typing stuff. :-) I wasn't sure if the camera's formatter would do
quite the right thing though (i.e. format without a partition map in
block 128, and zero out block 128).

A camera will make it make a valid MBR partition map and a FAT16 or
FAT32 partition, so that won't help you.

Ah, so that's a no-go. DISKPART to the rescue. ;-)
