Re: need help on adt tansfers-- ADT & AppleWin & sector ordering

There are some things to check here guys. First, have you checked the serial
port speeds. The must match. Also the data bits, stop bits and parity must
match.

Even though Apple Inc states the IIe can do hi-speed communication with the
serial card it does not always work on the old 1 mhz systems. 9600 baud is
usually a safe limit but try lower speeds first and work your way up. I don't
remember what the default speed for the SSC is offhand. I know the //c defaults
to 300 baud. My PC clone defaults to 2400 baud.

These things are very critical. It is easy to check though. On the PC side
start a term program, any term program will do. Preferrably one you have some
experience with. On the Apple side, go to BASIC and type IN#2. Replace the 2
with whatever slot your card is in. You should be able to type in commands from
the PC terminal program and see them on the Apple screen.

When you are certain all is ok you should be able to transfer the files. Now
comes the fun part. How you transfer them depends on what they are. If they are
actual disk images such as .DSK files then use ADT and make sure it is set up
to match the PC. Note, ADT will NOT transfer .NIB images.

If the files are .SHK or .SDK you're best bet is to use a comm program on both
computers, but make sure you have enough space to store them so you can unpack
them.

I think for these non-DSK files your best bet is to run an emulator and make
your own .DSK files which you can then copy with ADT.

One other thing to note here. The program Apple Oasis is the only emulator
(for PC's at least) that has reliable serial emulation. This will work though
if you want to emulate an Apple to Wannabe (read Apple) connection.

Sorry this is so long, I hope it helps you out. any way you look at it you
have a lot of work to do.
