OK, if you have any glow you must have filaments and high voltage. I
often use the hair on the back of my hand to detect high voltage, by
feeling for static on the screen when the monitor is powered up. The
next thing I'd try is adjusting the screen voltage to see if I could get
the intensity up on the screen. If you worked on TV's, you know where
that is adjusted. That normally won't change, you may have a defective
flyback transformer.

If it is that bad, you might have multiple problems.

My local computer recycling junk store (http://www.crc.org/) usually has
some, and I saw one at the dump recycling area yesterday, so they are
pretty easy to find. Schools also have them, and when the IIgs
powersupply goes, they dump the whole works.
