That's a pretty good lead-in

: OS: Mac/OS System 7.1 (yeah it's old)
: Software: AFS 3.0.1

: Computer: Apple IIgs (ROM 01)
: OS: GS/OS System 6.0.1 (workstation and installed on the Mac buy the

: Software: None worth mentioning
: Hardware: Zip GS (8mhz)
: Control panel settings: Slot 1 - Your card (although it's really mine)
: Slot 7 - AppleTalk
: Boot Disk: Slot 7

Well the first thing I'd check is pretty obvious - did you run Appleshare
Admin and check the "allow Apple II startup" check box in the server
preferences? If not, do that then restart the Mac and try 'er again.
