copy text files to Macintosh

It seems this has been discussed before but I guess I missed it. I have a
text file on a MSDOS disk that I would like to copy as a ascii TEXT file
to a Macintosh. I first copied the file to a ProDOS disk and then to HFS
disk on a Apple IIGS since the Macintosh does not recognize ProDOS disk. I
then tried using AppleTalk to copy the file from a Apple IIGS to the
Macintosh. No matter what I tried, the Macintosh did not recognize the
file as a text file.

What is the proper way to transfer a TEXT file to a Macintosh from an
Apple IIGS?
