That, of course, is the problem. IIgs <--> PC transfers via NULL
modem are easy once you have a 'high-speed' modem cable for the IIgs, a
NULL modem connector, and good telecom programs running on both
machines.

One way to get an A2 telecom program plus some other getting
started software is to email some regular poster here and ask. (Expect
to pay material and mailing costs.) Other possible sources include
local Apple II groups, schools with Apple II's, and Steve Cavenaugh's
Modemming Started disk (Apple Blossom Publishing;
http://people.delphi.com/appleblossom/ email: appleblossom@delphi.com).

An alternative is to use a PC program which can send a transfer
program to the GS without requiring the GS to have a telecom program.
You can find two such packages with docs on Asimov at ...

ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/utility/

Look for adt121.zip and ap2222pc.zip .

Below is some info about using ADT from Ronny Svedman ...

>>

ADT (Apple Disk Transfer) is available from the asimov archives, both
the PC end and the apple end. The only hook/problem with using ADT is
getting the ADT program onto an apple disk for the first time. What you
do is that you set your Super Serial Card to 300 bps, no parity, strip
8th bit. Then you boot your AppleII with dos 3.3 from a disk with some
free space, type IN#<whatever slot your SSC is in>, and use a PC
terminal program to Ascii-upload the ADT utility. The author has
provided a text file that enters the monitor, types itself into memory,
and BSAVE's itself to the disk. Amazingly clever!

Then, you reboot the apple, setup adt for desired port, speed &
diskdrive, do the same on the PC, and Voila: it works.

Q: Is the disk image produced on the PC usable on a popular emulator,
like, say AppleWin?

I have used them successfully on ApplePC (great emulator: fast,
joystick, mockingboard, harddrive emulation, working serial ports from
apple mode (yes: you could even ADT disks to the emulator and get a new
ADT image :-])) they also work nice in "appler" , though i dont like
that emulator as much. A friend of mine has tried them in Applewin and
reports no problems.

Q: If you use ADT to send an ADT-created disk image file back to your
Apple II from the PC, can it be converted to diskette form?

Yes. ADT does this for you, simply put a formatted 16-sector disk in the
drive. (dos 3.3) if you download a ProDOS image onto a dos 3.3 formatted
disk thats no problm, since ADT writes ALL of the disk, so you get a
bootable ProDOS disk from a bootable ProDOS image. likewise with pascal
and Apple Cp/M disks.

 ....

Once you have a way to transfer files easily, you will mainly be
interested in tilities and games in ShrinkIt compressed form (.shk file
archives and .sdk whole disk archives). A good utility for handling
ProDOS-8 wares and most .sdk files is ShrinkIt version 3.4. You can find
it along with directions for getting it going on your Apple II at ...

ftp://apple.cabi.net/pub/applegs/Utilities/8bit/ .

You will also want to get GS-ShrinkIt. You can find it at ...

Download gshk.sea and tchange. Download or print out gshk.sea.info.txt
