System 6.0.1 requires a minimum of 2 megs memory.  It will
run best with around 4 megs.   I don't recall precisely, but
I believe my Rom 01 had the standard Apple memory board,
fully populated (at a cost of $ 100 in 1993!!!), so I ran System
6.0.1 with 1280k memory.  It was slow, but I was running it
off of the Vulcan 40 meg hard drive  which was very fast for
the time.
