Re: Apple IIGS newbie

Go to
ftp://ftp.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Apple_II/Apple_IIGS_System_6.0.1/

All seven disks of the GS/OS system 6.0.1 are available in .sea.bin
format for your Mac clone. Your browser should automatically un-bin
them, and stuffit expander will convert them to diskcopy images. You
have to get 800K disks, format them to "Prodos 800K" with the apple
floppy format utility (Erase Disk from the Special menu), then run
Diskcopy on the files to load them onto the disks.
You can boot your system from System Disk, but you will be severly
limited by your 1 meg memory, I don't think you can run much with it.
I second the recommendation below the Alltech sirius ram cards are
cool, you can buy one for around $60 and load it with 8 1meg 30 pin
simms, some places in the Silicone Valley are giving them away just to
get you in the door.

Good Luck
Dave
