My understanding that the X in XGS was for X-windows.  In other words,
it was originally for UNIXen (including Linux).  However, the author
of the original XGS code is moving ISPs and says the code will not be
available for a while.  I offered to keep it on my web page until a
home was found (and I just wanted a copy so I could compile it for
Solaris, which BTW (WARNING: big plug ahead) is now free-ish (US$10 +
s/h in the US for non-commericial use)).
