That was me. You definitely would not be able to squeeze an
RJ-11 phone connector through the security port, however it is
feasible that some wires would fit through just fine. In theory,
the best solution would have been a little box that would plug
into the security port with dual RJ-11 connectors externally.
The box would have wires running out the back of it, which would
then connect internally to the modem card inside with a small
molex plug (you'd have no wires hanging out of the IIc Plus, just
an RJ-11 jack that would be firmly connected to the back).
I never saw the internal modem prototype shown at AppleFest
(Randy Shackelford did) but that is my guess at what would have
been done, or at least the most logical thing to do.
