The big reason I like and continue to use online services is
organization. On Delphi and Genie, messages are organized into
appropriate topics, and when things get off topic they are steered to
appropriate topics.
Then there is the file libraries which are also organized to make it
easy to locate what you are looking for.
There is a reason why this organization works so well, too. It is
because there are people who get paid to make sure that everything is
where it is supposed to be, that files are intact and do not contain
viruses and to make sure everything runs smoothly. This is to make
using the service a more pleasant experience for the paying customers
to keep them happy so that they will keep their accounts open. It is
just good business sense.
There is also the added benefit that abusers of the system (flamers,
virus uploaders, et al) can easily be removed from the system so that
the rest of the users don't need to put up with them.
