Thank you for your prompt reply,
I don't know why but my replies to comp.sys.aplle2 are not posted.
here is my reply to supertimer:
Many thanks to Supertimer for your prompt reply.

supertimer@aol.com (Supertimer) Organization: AOL
http://www.aol.com suggested:

1. "Basically, take your telephone hand set off the hook and wait until
the
line becomes silent".

* well , here in Israel (IL), it doesnt work. A busy signal will be
sent
when the phone is off more then half a minute.

* Instead I connected the two computers, a modem-to-modem using a phone
extension
Many thanks to Rubywand <rubywand@swbell.net> for your prompt reply and
this suggestion.

2. "...have Proterm up and running on the IIe.... and type ATD on one
computer and ATA on the other it does not matter which is which as long
as one is one and the other is the opposite..."

* It was impossible to issue the ATD cmd from Proterm. So I tried Kermit
387:
"Connect; Terminal Mode; ATD". The modem started buzzing and the reply
was: "No Dial Tone". It is clear why - D stands for Dial - so it expects
a dial tone.
To ATA - after buzzing for some time, the reply was - No Carrier

* On the pc I ran the only program I ve that facilitates communicating
with Modem: Rapidcomm. From "Terminal Mode" - to ATD the reaction was
the same on the Apple iie.

* I operated both programs and tried various combination- but to no
avail: the same reactions
.
Many thanks to "laserdog" <laserdog@scioto.net > for your prompt reply.

However I can't get here Cross Works.

Thus my question is: How can I force the Apple iie to talk to the pc and
the pc to respond.

Any suggestion will be much appreciated!
