It is for an add on card for further expanding RAM.  Good luck

Follow the link to http://www.allelec.com/appleii.htm and
click on "Memory" to pick up a 2MB Sirius RAM card (if you
need more memory later, you can install 1MB SIMMs on the
card all the way up to 8MB).
