Good news folks.
I have undertaken the great task of rewriting XGS to become a Win32 specific
emulator (the reasons why are too numerous and will be given out on request).
Now the good news is as follows:
1 - The emulator is now a multi-threaded dual interface COM component
that can be used inside of Visual Basic, VC++, Java or any
other platform or compiler that supports the COM binary spec.
People who think that performance is an issue should email
me and I will dismiss any fears.
2 - I am trying to get a windowed version of the component to
work **efficiently**. I have a windowed version, but it is
extremely slow and buggy.
The bad news:
1 - It is still slow (which will change)
2 - It is very thread-unsafe (due to some poor coding tehniques
used within the core.. Sorry josh...)
3 - It is very buggy (like it wasn't before)
If you are a developer, and are interested in getting a beta/debug version
of this component, please let me know, and I will email you the binaries
and interface definitions. Sorry, but for the time being, I am keeping the
COM wrapper and XGS core changes a secret. They will eventually be released
as public domain, but not until I am happy with the code base.
If you are interested in testing and writing a front end for this beast,
please let me know.
