Whelp... obvoiusly they won't run the same software. However, if your friend
uses Intellikeys keyboards with them (special adapted keyboards), they will
work fine on a Mac. S/He might need a new cable, but I think I remember reading
that the mac and IIgs cables are identical.

Macs also come with various adaptive software built in to the OS, as do Windows
95 boxes. I work with kids with special needs as well, and I am cooking up an
augmentive communications system called Talk2Me, for windows 95. 
I also mantain a lot of computers with adaptive equipment, let me know if you
need any questions answered.

BTW: Just so you know, "wheelchair-bound" is the incorrect term, wheelchairs do
not confine or bind, they enhance mobility. Without a chair, many people would
be confined to bed. A proper term would be "kids who use wheelchairs" -- its
better, but the best way would be to say what the person has "My friend teaches
kids with cerebral palsy" or "My friend teaches kids who have spina bifida"
etc. :)
