Re: Global Village 14.4

There has been a lot of traffic recently about modems and some say
don't get a modem that plugs into the ADB port of your Apple IIgs.

I'll just comment that I have a SupraExpress 33.6 modem (intended
for a Mac) that has been plugged into the ADB port on my ROM 3 IIgs
for several months now and it works great with Spectrum 2.1. It can
connect when set to 38400 but usually it is set to 19200 because I
don't do many file transfers and I just don't need the extra speed.
The modem came with all the necessary cables; just plug-n-play.

There is one possible disadvantage to this modem -- you can't easily
turn it off; if your communication software goes into a black hole
you may have trouble making the modem hang up. Not a big deal. There
is no adverse effect that I can tell on other IIgs software as a
result of having this modem always connected to the ADB port.

I also have a SupraFAXmodem 144 LC which connects at 19200 and has
worked flawlessly on an Apple IIgs with Spectrum for years.

(I don't know anything about Global Village modems, I'm just noting
my success with a SupraExpress 33.6 modem. YMMV.)

: The global village teleport series of modems goes into the ADB port
: (keyboard) port on a Mac. I am not sure if it would work on a IIGS.
: I'd like to hear the results if you try it.
