There is a chance that the sensor the drive uses to determine a
floptical is damaged.  Like on a high density disk, a floptical disk
is differentiated by something extra on the disk.  On a high density
drive, there is a sensor that reads an extra hole oposite the write
protect.  I think on the floptical, a sensor looks out for the "f" symbol.
