Recently went to a Northern School Supply going out of business sale in
my area at the prompting of my wife, and found shrink-wrapped boxes of 10
for 50 cents (they were also selling the 3m Imation DSDDs in another part
of the store at $6 for 10, which might be suggestive of why they are
going out of business).

Anyhow, when I went to the register with 18 boxes, I remarked about the
stupidly low price (overestimating the intelligence of the checker; this
was no part-time high schooler), and said that perhaps they would sell
them better if they made it known that one could use DSDDs with an Apple
II (this being a school supply store and all).

Some of you know the rest already, and my stomach turns in the retelling.
She said, "Really?", examined one of the boxes for about 30 seconds, then
decided that they were too big to fit into the disk drive on her Mac.
You would think that in a store existing to fill the needs of elementary
and high schools, full of Apple IIs that get used on a daily basis, that
the help would know what one is. In later futile attempts to get
information (and observing other frustrated would-be customers), I
learned that nobody working in the store even knew the difference between
3.5" and 5.25" diskettes. At least I took advantage of it before they
closed permanently.
