No, but they did have to pay for it, and Umax and Moto had
apparently agreed to pay the higher licensing fees.

Maybe. But Umax continues to sell $999 cpus and MacTell sells full
systems at $999. Apple should be able to sell $999 systems too. When
they do, or when an Apple Os runs on such inexpensive hardware, more
people will run an Apple OS.
