FORWARDING: Message from Steve Buggie

Steve Buggie requested that I forward this message to comp.sys.apple2

if replying publicly, the text should be attributed to Steve Buggie and
*not* me as I am only acting as a messager here. ;-)

------begin forwarded text from Steve Buggie (buggie@unm.edu)----------

Mitch,

I'm stuck in this "Gateway" college computer room, waiting patiently for
call-in e-mail and for my college office ethernet to be connected. I
can't re-post e-mailings directly to Usenet from here, could could you
repost the following ON MY BEHALF to CSA2? I hope it will open some
discussion. Thanks! Steve Buggie

COLLEGE COMPUTER BOSS SAYS, "IBM ONLY."

Dear CSA2 readers,

Some of you know that I do not yet have e-mail as call-in from
home, nor from my college office. These services are soon to be provided
at our college. I have a Mac SE/30 at the college office, already fitted
with an ethernet card. The IIgs and IIc at home are ready with modems.

Note the memo that follows from the Computer Boss of our branch
campus. The message decrees, "IBM ONLY."

        I want to engage in civil disobedience to this windozz monopoly;
does anyone have advice on how to do it?

I plan to inquire with the computing department at the Albuquerque
main campus to see whether any "computing diversity" policies affect UNM
as a whole. If so, maybe I could (meekly) insist that Mac/ Apple II must
be connectable even at our branch campus.

In my opinion, nothing will kill off the Apple II _and_ Macintosh
faster than being made incompatible with campus servers to internet!

I have deleted the computer boss's name and address from the memo
below (to respect her privacy). Please do NOT send any outrageous memos
to anyone other than myself about this. Still, if anyone has any ideas by
which I can assert my rights to have a non-Windozz computer connected to
e-mail, let me know!
