If you reread my text up there, you see that I say exactly that. 7.6 was what
the Mac OS crowd call a reference release, hence it cost $ to go from 7.5, the
last reference release, to 7.6. Ditto going from 7.6 to 8.0.
Since 7.6 is passe now, it's pretty cheap to come by. If you go to
www.macresq.com, you'll see that they're selling the package for $19.
I discovered that the new MacAdvocate II CD, which Apple will send you for
free if you request it on their web site (free postage even) has a fully
installable 7.5.3 on it. Not sure whether it was intentional or not, but
regardless, that in effect makes 7.5 a free upgrade.

I use Windows daily, but not because I like to. Plus I tend to stay away from
MS web sites (and everything else with MS in its name.) The box I use is
government property so I don't monkey with it. So I'm blissfully unaware of
how you get Windows updated, but doesn't seem to be the same as Apple's update
setup.
