Another thought about this...do you actually have two disk drives? If so, simply switch the drives on the drive card (moving drive 1 to the #2 position, and move #2 to the #1 position). Then, see if you can now boot from disk 2 (which is, of course, now disk 1). If you can boot from disk 2, replace/repair disk 1.
