	OK, First we'll talk about software.  I recommend System 6.01 for
your Apple IIgs (make sure you have over 1 Megabyte of RAM.  2-4 Megabytes
preferable.  On your Macintosh (SE/30 right?).  System 7.0x or greater.
The key is the Mac OS's personal file sharing control panel (again,
included with System 7.0x or greater).
	Just use the System 6.01 Install Disk on your GS and look for the
AppleTalk scripts and install the software.  If you have a ROM 01 GS you 
have to set Slot 7 to AppleTalk AND either your printer or modem port to 
"Your Card".  If you have a ROM 3 GS, just set slot 1 or 2 to AppleTalk
and plug the cable in the appropriate port.  On the Mac side of things,
you'll have to turn on file sharing, in the Finder, highlight a drive (or
folder) and select "Sharing..." from the File menu.  Just make sure you
check the box that says something like "Share this item and it's
contents".  Plug the cable into the Printer Port (unless you're running
Open Transport on the Macintosh, in which case their is an AppleTalk
control panel with which you can set which port to use -- if you don't
know what OT is, then you're probably not using it).
	On the Hardware side, you need either Apple's localtalk conectors
or (and I haven't tried these yet) phonenet connectors.  The later are
cheaper because they use standard phone cable between connectors.  Apple's
connectors are VERY expensive (30 a piece at my campus store...ouch!).
I've seen phonenet connectors for sale on Alltech Electronics homepage
(sorry, maybe someone else can provide the URL?) for 5 for $15.00 or for
$3.95 a piece.  I'm not sure how they work exactly, since I haven't tried
them yet (I was GIVEN 4 AppleTalk connectors from a friend :) ), but I
will in a few weeks (I have some printers and other Macs to network in my
parent's home).  It looks like a better investment (cheaper) than Apple's
cables.
	I hope this at least gives you a vague idea of what you need.  I
wrote all this from memory, so it may be off a bit here and there...
