AppleTalk and the printer and serial ports are dead because the
lightning strike probably fried the communications chip.

Robert, you don't need any special installation software at all.
Also, if you've installed System 6.0.1 and the HFS FST on the GS,
the GS will read Macintosh Zip Disks. Yes, as the FAQ notes, there
may be problems getting ProDOS Zip Disks formatted on the GS to
show up on the Mac, but Macintosh formatted Zip Disks easily show
up on the GS. You just need to eject the first partition that
contains the driver that the Macintosh uses.
Here are the steps:
1) Format a Zip disk in the Zip Drive connected to the Macintosh as
you usually do.
2) Make sure you have System 6.0.1 and the HFS FST installed on the
GS.
3) Power off both computers. Remove the Zip Drive from your Mac's
SCSI chain and add it to your GS's RamFAST SCSI chain.
4) Power on the GS and insert the Zip disk.
5) When you reach the Finder, the GS will say "can't read this
partition with installed FSTs" and "Initialize or Eject?"
Click on the Eject button.
6) After the Mac driver partition is ejected, the real data partition
will be mounted on the GS Finder.
7) Drag your files from your hard drive volume and drop them on the
Mac Zip Disk's volume icon.
8) Select "Shut Down" and power down the GS.
9) Disconnect the Zip Drive from your GS's SCSI chain.
10) Reconnect the Zip Drive to your Mac's SCSI chain.
11) Power up the Mac and stick in the Zip Disk.
12) Open the volume to see your GS files on your Mac Zip Disk.
