Netatalk & IIgs (almost there!)

All,

Please. Can someone comment on the following problem?

I have a LocalTalk network consisting of:

(1) 386DX40 running Linux 2.0.29 & netatalk-1.4b2
(using Brad Johnson's ltpc driver and an original
         Apple-brand LocalTalk PC card)

(1) Mac SE running System 7.0.1 + Fixup

(1) Apple IIgs with built-in LocalTalk

(1) Apple IIe with Apple IIe Workstation Card (LocalTalk)

I've been hacking away for a month adding support for Apple IIe / IIgs
ProDOS to netatalk. Except for some code cleanup and minor swizzles, it's
basically done.

I'm able to log onto the Unix box from the Apple IIe, and scoot files back
and forth to my heart's content. This will probably gladden the hearts of
die-hard Apple 2 hackers <g>.

Naturally, I'm able to log into the server from the Mac, with everything
working as advertised.

I can log from the IIgs to shared folders on the Mac with no problems.

However, the IIgs is absolutely unable to communicate directly with the
Linux box - and vice-versa! Any and all attempts at logon from the GS
result in a timeout, and complaint that the server isn't responding.
Likewise, running 'aecho' to ping the IIgs from Linux (nbplkup does show
it online!) results in about 95% packet loss, with only the occasional
response. Pings to anything else on the network average 15-18mSec. The
odd ping that is returned from the gs runs about 80-100mSec. latency.

I naturally assumed that the IIgs had hardware problems, however a
borrowed GS with completely different peripherals behaves identically.
Both gs machines can log into the Mac without a hitch. I can move files
between Linux and the GS in two steps (Mac in between), but this failure
is growing annoying.
