Two programs with "speech" stand out clearly in my memory:
* that old "Calculator" demo (it displayed a calculator on the
screen, and spoke the numbers and functions as you typed them in)
* a type-in program from Compute that let users digitize speech
through the casette port (I still have this one lying around . . .)
There was also a few games that did some speech. . .with that one-bit
sound output, they sounded pretty beastly, but at the time, it seemed
really cool (hey look, the computer is speaking. . ..well, sort of)
